Rya are a 3 piece band based in Oslo, Norway. Formed late in 2014, the band is comprised of Michael Welzl (drums), Stuart Clarke (gtr/vocals), and Esteban Choy Pernia (bass/vocals).
2016 was a good first year for the band with successful gigs around Oslo, the recording of new material, and airplay on radio stations in Canada and the U.K.
2017 saw the band play their first gigs outside Norway with dates in Berlin and Hamburg. There was further radio play in England as well as invitations to play in Germany and the UK in 2018. 2019 looks to continue in the same way, with summer trips to Austria and England already on the cards.
Rya released their latest recording ‘Polythene’ in December ‘18.
Influences range from rock, punk, reggae and ska, their album ’Conversations’ was described as ‘sharp, energetic guitar music driven by the voice of Stuart Clarke. Songs about relationships and politics gone haywire. And tea. As Norwegian as English football.’
The band’s philosophy is quite simple;
‘We just want to play. We don’t care about money; we just want people to have a good time.’
